Chuck Hagel and Robert Gate weigh in on the role of the presidency

Today, January 29, 2016, on T & Z Talk, the day after what seemed to be a “Trumpless” GOP debate the discussion was predictably about that. As Tony put it in the lead up to the show in the intro notes:

Richard Zombeck and Tony Trupiano will either debate the debate or report on the debate itself.  Was Donald Trump's refusal to show a difference maker?  If it was, who did it make a difference for?  We'll discuss.

Former political heavyweights, Chuck Hagel and Robert Gate weigh in on the role of the presidency and the 2016 field.  Their comments will resonate with many of you and, if time allows, we should check in on what the lastest is in Flint, MI with the #FlintWaterCrisis.

At about 57 minutes into the show, the perfect time for it, the show experienced some technical difficulties. In the spirit of keeping our promise to the idea of a live show, we have left the audio for this episode unedited. We care that much … enjoy the show and please subscribe to our newsletter to receive our updates.

The Donald making news just by saying no.

We had planned to cover the latest from Oregon, Flint, Michigan and the Iowa Caucus, as well as The Donald making news just by saying no. Welcome to a new political paradigm!

We got a little side tracked today, talking about a man who accidentally shot himself while masturbating on the highway, which led to a conversation about another man in Washington who accidentally shot a woman in theater because someone grabbed his crotch.

We finally did get to the news of the day and covered the Oregon militia, Donald Trump's war with FOX and what that means for the debates and the other candidates.

Today, January 27, 2016, on T & Z Talk we kicked off the show talking about Planned Parenthood and the ongoing fiasco with the court case gone bad. Bad at least for the plaintiffs.

Addiction in America was at the top of the hour and something near and dear to my heart, as I’m getting ready to hit a 9-year mile stone in sobriety later this week.

We wrapped up the show discussing Chris Christie and his reaction to the flooding in his state and the way he generally enjoys insulting constituents who ask him questions.

And with five days Iowa and Trump dropping out of the FOX debates, Tony and I give our opinions and predictions, such as they are.

We were joined today by Michigan Democratic House leader Tim Greimel, who came on to discuss the water crisis in Flint Michigan. Particularly, to address Gov. Rick Snyder’s hiring an outside public relations firm using nonpublic funds.

The Representative comes in at about 17 minutes into the show to talk about the crisis.

“This issue has really attracted national media attention, and with good reason. People are literally being poisoned. Children are literally suffering irreparable brain damage as a result of the actions and inactions of the governor’s administration.”

As Tony points out, Greimel wants to avoid this fiasco being politicized and adds:

“The most important thing is for us all to work together and try to solve this immediate humanitarian catastrophe.”

Today’s show was all about, what else? The upcoming Iowa Caucuses, Sarah Palin, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his possible bid for a presidential run, and of course the continuing water crisis in Flint Michigan, where Tony is broadcasting from – Michigan, not Flint.

What is Governor Rick Snyder doing? Nothing really, according to pretty much everyone. Jeb! Bush, on the other hand is somehow echoing his brother’s, “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job,” comment during the administration’s failure in the handling of Katrina. They seem to be two peas in a pod. But, hey what the heck, at least their mom’s proud of them.
